Maria has seen a variety of clients from different backgrounds and with presenting problems. She has the most experience working with clients with Depression and Anxiety. She is also multi-culturally competent and an LGBTQ+ ally. She has worked with a number of clients who are 1st/2nd generation Americans or immigrants, struggling with issues related to settling in a new country.
Maria’s philosophy about counseling is that it’s for everyone - regardless of whether you have a mental health diagnosis or not. Her goal will always be to remove the stigma around discussing mental health issues and for everyone to have an honest conversation about how they’re feeling. Blue Alcove is a tribute to her bunny, Blue, and aims to be a judgment-free zone for anyone who is ready, to be honest with themselves.

Therapy Approaches
Maria’s therapy approach includes a general humanistic approach of empathy and compassion. Depending on what you're dealing with, Maria will typically use a variety of techniques including Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, or Motivational Interviewing to approach them. Maria also used a fair amount of Socratic questioning in session if needed. She will do her best to tailor a treatment plan to your needs and personality.
